#5: Die Bunten + Alex Senna
25.08.23–24.09.23
We cordially invite you and your friends to the opening of the project GROUNDFLOOR PLAYGROUND extended on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 6:00 pm.
As an introduction Christian Thöner (Kunstverein), Daniel Tröster (Die Bunten) and Alex Senna will speak in English about the joint project.

What happens when the Kunstverein opens the gate of its courtyard for a month? GROUNDFLOOR PLAYGROUND extended. Because then Die Bunten make themselves at home in the exhibition rooms of its first floor and their surroundings. For this they invite a good friend: Alex Senna.
The graffiti association, who has been established in Augsburg for many years, and the artist, who lives in Sao Paulo, have set themselves two ambitious goals for the late summer:
With the public space adjacent to the Kunstverein at the Geißgässchen, both will occupy a barely perceived location - one only temporarily, the other permanently, but both sustainably.
The artists of the Augsburg graffiti scene and the internationally renowned and already gallery-proven mural artist will simultaneously test the effect and interaction of their works on the ground floor of the Kunstverein in a rather museum-like context.
The outdoor space, centrally located in Augsburg's old town, was formerly defined as a playground and in the course of time has already been appropriated and rededicated by graffiti from unknown hands. The traditional venue for contemporary art next to it, on the other hand, becomes nothing more than a temporary playground for graffiti and urban art.

With this unique "extended version" of its GROUNDFLOOR PLAYGROUND project series, the Kunstverein, on the initiative of and in cooperation with the actors of the Bunte, is not only expanding its own experiential space. It also invites its visitors and the art-interested public to re-evaluate and appreciate the neighboring, hitherto unloved and unnoticed urban space as a place to stay.
The opening of the exhibition at the Kunstverein will be the starting signal for a week of works on the public square and in the arcades at Geißgässchen: While Senna's commissioned work, which stands in the context of the Augsburg water system as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in terms of both content and space, takes shape on the built stock, the artists of the Augsburg scene will design the arcades enclosed by it in a creative community on mobile elements.
The Kunstverein Augsburg e.V. and the Bunten e.V. would like to thank the city of Augsburg for supporting this project.

Die Bunten e.V. (*2011 in Augsburg, Germany) have the claim to give a home to all people who identify with graffiti culture and urban art. From the beginner:in to the professional. In doing so, the association does not try to make equal what is different. It does not prescribe, but defines spaces and possibilities. It explores and creates places of expression for the themes and forms of presentation of its members and those close to them. It is a spaceship into new worlds in order to build networks there.
Alex Senna (*1982 in Orlândia, Brazil)
captures the ephemeral, moments, with his monochrome works, predominantly in black and white, and distills them into the stylistically simplest form. Easy to capture even in the relentless pace of big cities. The works of the Brazilian street artist, which congenially bring together the languages of illustration of the comic and graffiti, are about love and human relationships. Through his endearingly charismatic heroines, Senna manages to let contrasts and opposites meet in the greatest possible harmony, playfully creating an often melancholic and romantic dialogue with the viewer.
